Workforce Development Goals for 2008

  • Continue to develop partnerships with the programs identified in 2007, particularly those involving multiple stakeholders that emphasize math, science, the arts, and language skill development.
  • Increase business participation on the Workforce Development Committee by engaging the industry on determining their workforce needs.

  • Promote and support discretionary grant funding received by the federal and state governments, community colleges, and workforce investment boards for career technical education and training.
  • Expand working relationships with all Orange County cities and school districts to ensure that voter-approved bond dollars are efficiently and effectively implemented. Advocate joint-use partnerships for career and workforce investment facilities.

  • Continue to build Latino Educational Attainment (LEA) community coalitions and expand its media program in order to provide proactive intervention for at-risk and limited-English proficient students who could benefit from after-school enrichment opportunities.

  • Collaborate with businesses, cities, and school districts in developing local, market-based housing incentives that will encourage high-quality educators to work in Orange County.

  • Continue partnership on Executive Exchange with our county high schools.

  • Work with the Orange County Department of Education on policyimplementation that benefits our students in the county in the Governor’s “Year of Education.”
