Under the leadership of OCBC’s Government Affairs Committee Chairman Michael Hornak of Rutan & Tucker, OCBC Board Members and staff recently met with Nick Berardino, General Manager of the Orange County Employees Association and his staff to begin a dialogue about the ways business and labor can work together. The organizations came together with the belief that more can be accomplished through collaboration than contention. In an atmosphere of open communication and mutual respect, a shared objective was uncovered: completion of the 241 Toll Road. Already OCBC has a partner on this effort in Jim Adams from the Building Trades Council.
This project’s failed completion has negatively impacted business growth, hindered the transportation needs of Orange County workers, and created a public safety risk. OCEA and OCBC will advocate as one voice in the coming months. It is expected that this will be the first of many opportunities for business and labor to work together on shared goals.
