“Careers by Choice, Not Chance” Give Students a Head Start

At last week’s Workforce Development Committee meeting Kathy Johnson from Vital Link and Morgan Empey from Cisco Information Systems updated the committee on the role technology is playing in student’s education and career selection. Vital Link emphasizes to students, “Careers by Choice, Not Chance,” and provides students with career exploration opportunities, with the goal of helping students realize their passion and how it can translate into a career. Through their student career exploration programs and mobile career exhibits, Vital Link is reaching thousands of students in Orange County and helping them to develop a meaningful career path.

Cisco Information Systems is changing the face of education to reflect a 21st century reality. Through the use of video technology, the walls are dropping; no longer is there a need for a physical classroom to facilitate learning. Understanding that students today require interactive, immersive “edu-tainment,” Cisco is working to bring video conferencing and pre-recorded video to students in Orange County. They are currently working with the Board of Education to install bandwidth to facilitate these efforts.
