I-405 IMPROVEMENTS: PROMISES MADE, PROMISES KEPT -- AND ADDED CHOICE, TOO

An op-ed from Bryan Starr, Senior Vice President, OCBC Government Affairs

On two separate occasions Orange County voters expressed their approval of a half-cent sales tax, known as Measures M-1 and M-2, in order to fund badly needed transportation projects and improve mobility in Orange County.  To date, the implementing agency, Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA), has done a fantastic job of delivering projects.  Thus far, promises made have been promises kept to the voters of Orange County. This year, OCTA embarks on the largest single transportation project this county will likely see for the next couple of decades - the I-405 expansion project.  As promised under Measure M-2, OCTA is slated to widen I-405, adding one general purpose lane in each direction on portions of the freeway through Orange County.  That proposal is approved and is moving forward through the planning process.  Sounds pretty good right?  But wait, there's a bonus. CLICK HERE to read more. For more information, contact Bryan Starr, Senior Vice President, Government Affairs.

OC TOLL ROADS IMPROVE FINANCIAL STANDING BY REFINANCING DEBT

The Foothill/Eastern Transportation Corridor Agency (F/ETCA) Board of Directors approved a plan to issue toll road refunding revenue bonds totaling $2.3 billion, which allows for the refinancing of current bond obligations. The Board also approved amendments to Cooperative Agreements between the Agency and the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans), which will allow it to restructure its debt and lower annual payments. These measures allow the agency to put finances in order, provide cash flow for important projects such as the SR 241 to 91 Express Lanes connector, and provide pricing flexibility to partner with regional transportation organizations to improve mobility and usage of the toll road system. For more information, contact Bryan Starr, Senior Vice President, Government Affairs.

OCBC HEADS TO CA ECONOMIC SUMMIT WITH HOUSING AND ADVANCED MANUFACTURING SOLUTIONS

An efficient supply of housing affordable to the workforce remains a critical issue to Orange County's economy and competitive advantage. During 2010 to 2013, Orange County's estimated housing growth rate was 0.36 percent, far behind the population growth rate of 0.78 percent. Compounded with high median housing prices, 16.5 percent increase since 2012; there is a notable shortage of workforce housing supply, which is projected to continue without focus on new construction, according the recently released 2013 Orange County Workforce Indicators Report. To address this issue, OCBC members Dan Miller of Irvine Company; David Smith of DMB Pacific Ventures; Sharon Ellis of Habitat for Humanity, OC; Laura Archuleta of Jamboree Housing Corp.; and Lucy Dunn of OCBC, comprise a Housing Action Team heading for the California Economic Summit in Los Angeles November 7-8, 2013. In addition, OCBC Board Member Chris Harrington of Toshiba serves as co-chair of the Advancing Manufacturing Action Team.
