OCBC WIN, BUT HARD WORK YET TO BE DONE ON FEDERAL TRANSPORTATION BILL 


We Capitol - DCpleaded with Congress, "just approve something...anything!" to end the gridlock preventing the passage of a transportation funding bill, and pass something is exactly what they did. With the Highway Trust Fund-the main source of transportation infrastructure funding-projected to run out before the end of the year, Congress is under pressure to find new sources of funding in the short and long term. WIMPS DIDN'T BUILD CALIFORNIA

California High-Speed Rail Authority recently decided, after hearing from OCBC and other business and community leaders, to keep Anaheim in the high-speed rail plan and on track. Anaheim's importance as one of the states leading employment centers and tourist destinations for the region cannot be overstated. Orange County's continued economic vitality depends on an effective multi-model 21st century transportation system. OCBC remains committed to working with the Authority to implement the revised Business Plan and build a safe, cost-efficient high speed rail system over the years ahead. OCBC ENDORSES TOM DALY IN CONTESTED 69TH ASSEMBLY RACE

OCBC has endorsed Tom Daly for State Assembly, 69th District. Daly currently serves as the Orange County Clerk-Recorder. Prior to his election as Clerk-Recorder, Daly served as Mayor of Anaheim, Anaheim City Councilman, and on the Anaheim Union High School District Board of Trustees. Daly's background and practical experience of working directly with constituents, as well as business, will provide a helpful perspective in Sacramento on how government can reduce red tape to increase efficiency and improve business opportunities to invest and grow. OCBC WELCOMES HUANGPU DISTRICT OF SHANGHAI, CHINA

On April 19, OCBC hosted an 18-member delegation of officials representing the Huangpu District of Shanghai, China. Located in central Shanghai, the Huangpu district is considered the downtown and financial core of Shanghai.  OCBC Vice President of Economic Development Matt Petteruto provided a presentation highlighting Orange County's strong educational system along with its vibrant workforce training programs as key drivers in developing a deep talent pool for local businesses.  OCBC's Economic Development Committee Co-Chair Chris Harrington of Toshiba American Information Systems provided insight on the benefits of doing business in Orange County. As a result of their visit to OCBC, the delegation will examine how to replicate some of the talent development systems which are in place here in Orange County. OCTA AND CALOPTIMA SEEKING COMMITTEE APPLICANTS

Orange County Transportation Authority is seeking qualified volunteers to serve on the Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC). The thirty four-member committee actively participates in examining traffic solutions, providing input to OCTA's transportation studies and communicating with their constituencies. CalOptima is seeking candidates for the Provider Advisory Committee, which advises the CalOptima Board of Directors and staff, engages in research and analysis, serves as a liaison to the Board, gathers public opinion, and facilitates community outreach for CalOptima and the Board. USA Volleyball Men's Continental Olympic Qualifying Tournament - May 7-12, 2012 

USA Volleyball will host the eight-team NORCECA Men's Continental Olympic Qualification Tournament on May 7-12 at the Walter Pyramid in Long Beach. The winner of this tournament with teams from the NORCECA (North America, Central America and the Caribbean) confederation will qualify for the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
