|LOCAL CONTROL OF ONTARIO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT WITH HELP FROM OC.|
Lucy Dunn, OCBC President and CEO, was unanimously appointed by the Ontario City Council to serve on the newly formed Ontario International Airport Authority (OIAA). The five member board represents Riverside, San Bernardino, and Orange Counties with the mission of gaining local control of the Ontario International Airport from Los Angeles World Airports. While John Wayne Airport will always be Orange County's preferred airport, local control and promotion of the Ontario-based airport can complement service at JWA. In addition, Ontario International Airport is a significant economic development opportunity for a growing Southern California economy by improving and increasing air transportation throughout the region and supporting long-term mobility sustainability. |CARS LAND PUMPING DOLLARS INTO LOCAL ECONOMY.|
|The grand opening of Disney California Adventure's Cars Land has been a smash hit with tourists and locals alike, and is already impacting the local economy. The billion dollar expansion project has spurred a huge hotel boost, with industry analysts reporting 84.5% of Orange County hotel rooms being filled in June, compared to 80% last year. Along with the increase in tourists, hotel prices have seen a direct price correlation with room rates, up an average of 7% over last year. These economic improvements are part of a broader tourism trend as the economy continues to recover. In all of 2011, 73% of Orange County hotel rooms were filled, up from 70% in 2010 and 67% in 2009. This continued upward momentum is a positive sign for general employment figures. In the last year, local tourism added 1,450 Orange County jobs. As hotel owners see their industry gain momentum, OC will begin to see more new and improved properties to accommodate growth. For more information contact Dr. Wallace Walrod, Chief Economic Advisor.|
|IS THE HOUSING MARKET RECOVERY WITHIN REACH? NEW CHF DATA SAYS YES!|
July saw the best increase in nationwide home prices since 2006, suggesting that the housing market may finally be seeing a more permanent recovery. Home prices shot up 3.8% during the month, marking the fifth straight rise in the gauge, according to real estate data provider CoreLogic. California and Orange County are also seeing increased home prices. Orange County's housing market continues to recover with sale prices up from this time last year. For the 22 business days ending August 15, the median selling price for all residences was up 3.4% from last year and total Orange County sales were up 15.6% from last year. Notably, the mid-county section, often the slowest moving section of Orange County, saw an increase in sales up 8% versus 2011. Housing prices in California rose 4.4% for July. ARTIC will increase mobility options for residents, business travelers and visitors to Anaheim, Orange County and the entire Southern California region. The center has been praised as a "truly iconic structure" and a "positive addition for Orange County," which will create 5,000 jobs, by a grand jury report issued last month. ARTIC is expected to open in 2014. For more information contact Dr. Wallace Walrod, Chief Economic Advisor.
