LEGISLATIVE UPDATE: NO JUNE SPECIAL ELECTION ON TAX INCREASE EXTENSIONS

Governor Brown is nearly halfway to closing a state budget gap of nearly $27 billion; his original plan for plugging caflagthe remainder of the shortfall with extensions on tax increases has been derailed for now. He called a halt to talks last week, blaming Republicans for driving them into a ditch with demands that would "materially undermine any semblance of a balanced budget." State Senate Republican Leader Bob Dutton shot back saying hard feelings and lack of any meaningful regulatory reform had poisoned talks. CLICK HERE to read more. DISNEYLAND RESORT -- THE HEARTBEAT OF ORANGE COUNTY
The Disneyland Resort presented its annual "State of the Resort" on Friday, April 8 to 400 Orange County business Disneylandleaders and elected officials. George A. Kalogridis, Disneyland Resort President, spoke to the success the Resort has had during these tough economic times, saying, "The Disneyland Resort generates $4.7 billion annually for the Southern California economy, as well as $255 million in taxes each year for the surrounding cities, counties and the State of California." OCMOVES COMMITTEE UPDATE

OCMoves first steering committee meeting was held on March 31 to coincide with the completion of the Measure MOCMoves program. The meeting featured Kia Mortazavi, Executive Director of Planning for Orange County Transportation Authority, who reviewed the Performance Assessment for Measure M2 and provided an overview of what to expect in the upcoming programming. OCTA is currently working on two projects on the 57 freeway, and is planning for a project on the I-5. $38 million in freeway funding leftover from M1 will transfer to M2, which on its own has projected revenue of $15 billion. ORANGE IS THE "NEW" GREEN - SOUTHERN CA EDISON FOCUSES ON SUSTAINABILITY

Southern California Edison (SCE) has been dedicated to reducing its ecological footprint and developing new edisontechnologies toward a greener future. As the nations largest purchaser of renewable energy, they buy and deliver 13 billion kilowatt hours from wind, solar, biomass, geothermal, and small hydro suppliers. This adds up to 16% of the total energy delivered nationwide. SCE has also taken the initiative on constructing the nation's largest wind transmission project, which will be capable of delivering 4,500 megawatts of electricity from wind farms and other generating companies. Southern California Edison is excelling in the sustainability department and is a leading example of fostering sustainable development within a company. The Orange County Forum hosted their annual luncheon launching the release of the 2011 Oranorange globege County Community Indicators report. Sponsored by the Children & Families Commission of Orange County, the County of Orange, and Orange County Business Council, this report tracks a range of topics important to the county's social and economic health and prosperity. This year's panel included OCBC's own President and CEO, Lucy Dunn; Steve PonTell, President of the La Jolla Institute; and Curt Pringle, Chairman of the Orange County Taxpayers Association. Recap of Measure M Reception

Over 200 people from Orange County's business community gathered Thursday, March 31 to recognize the success of Measure M, a ground-breaking transportation program funded through a half-cent sales tax, approved by the voters in 1990. The acknowledgment from the business community was also directed toward OCTA's vision and work they have done to implement a better transportation system for Orange County.  Special guests that night included CalTrans Director Cindy McKim, OCTA Board Chair Pat Bates, Assemblymember Jose Solorio and numerous local elected officials. The event hosted by OCBC/OC Moves, Mobility 21 and WTS-OC was a smashing success!
