Chief Executive Officer
Michael Schrader is the Chief Executive Officer of CalOptima, since December 2012.
CalOptima is a public health plan with 740,000 members, 900 employees, and $3.6 billion in annual revenue. It has a 12-member Board of Directors that is appointed by the Orange County Board of Supervisors. CalOptima administers health insurance programs including Medicare and Medicaid (called Medi-Cal in California) for the low income. In 2014, the National Committee for Quality Assurance ranked CalOptima in the top 10 percent nationally and #1 in California, for health plans that offer Medicaid. CalOptima also operates a PACE Center, or an adult-day care and primary-care clinic for frail seniors.
Prior to CalOptima, Mr. Schrader was the Chief Operating Officer for the Boston Medical Center HealthNet Plan in Massachusetts. The health plan had 250,000 members, 400 employees, and $1.2 billion in annual revenue. It was ranked as the 3rd best Medicaid health plan in America, out of 148.
Mr. Schrader also previously served as the Chief Operating Officer of CenCal Health in Santa Barbara, CA. The health plan had 100,000 members, 150 employees, and $270 million in annual revenue.
Mr. Schrader holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of California Los Angeles and a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Arizona. He serves on the board of the Local Health Plans of California.
Michael lives in Irvine with his wife and daughter.
