Orange is the “New” Green: ExxonMobil Focuses on Spill Prevention
As one of the leading petroleum and natural gas companies, ExxonMobil takes their environmental responsibilities very seriously by actively managing environmental risks and relentlessly focusing on operational excellence. Through sustainable approaches, spill prevention, reduction of air emissions, and waste management ExxonMobil is carefully perusing every avenue of environmental protection.
ExxonMobil recognizes that spill prevention is of the utmost importance to protect human health and the environment and they have taken every precaution as a result. Through strengthening procedures, building in layers of protection, inspecting and maintaining equipment, training operators, and conducting tests and drills, ExxonMobil has transported all cargoes without any spills greater than 1 barrel for more than 4 years.
In addition, it has been more than three years since the last spill from a barge. In 2010, their combined air emissions decreased by 6 percent from 2009 and by year-end 2010, their U.S. refining facilities reduced emissions by over 70 percent from 2000 levels. They also contributed more than $3 million to organizations dedicated to biodiversity and land conservation. These generous contributions and careful precautions demonstrate ExxonMobil’s commitment to protecting the environment. For more information contact Katherine Reedy, Director of Communications.
