The Boeing Company Focuses on Sustainability
The Boeing Company is developing innovative solutions to help address the global issues of pollution and climate change. In 2010, Boeing employees will lead more than 400 workshops educating suppliers about ways to reduce emissions and cut back on the amount of materials sent to landfills.
Along with their workshops Boeing has taken some direct action in reducing their impact to the planet. Boeing reduced their absolute energy consumption by .3 percent in the year 2009 and since 2002 they have reduced their energy consumption by 32 percent. Boeing also reduced their water consumption at their major U.S sites by 6 percent in 2009.
Boeing has continued to help the environment by reducing their CO2 emissions since 2002 by 10.1 percent on an absolute basis. In 2009, Boeing recycled 68 percent of the waste generated in their major U.S. manufacturing operation, up from 64% in previous years. With innovative and fresh ideas, Boeing is becoming a sustainable development leader.
